Sailing Dinghies

Sailing Dinghies

A dinghy is a monohull sailboat which has a large part of the retractable anti-drift plan. The anti-drift plan or simply drift designates a submerged bearing surface of the boat. This fin allows the dinghy to resist drift, that is to say the lateral skidding that can sometimes be caused by the wind.

The daggerboard allows the dinghy to go upwind more easily. Without it, it would be almost impossible for the dinghy to go upwind. Conversely, when the boat has tailwind, the centerboard is no longer useful. It is therefore more advantageous for the skipper to raise the centerboard in order to limit any friction with the water and therefore gain speed.

A dinghy can have up to two fins on its hull.
