Integrated approaches for the toxicological risk assessment of cosmetic ingredients & products based on regulatory guidelines

An integrated approach, which combines in silico pre-screening with in vitro testing, is employed for a swift and efficient evaluation of cosmetic and chemical toxicity risks. These innovative methods contribute to a faster and more cost-effective toxicological risk assessment compared to traditional testing methods.
In silico pre-screening is based on OECD guidelines for toxicological risk assessement of substances:
- Acute toxicity
- Skin permeability, irritation/corrosion & sensitization
- Endocrine disrupting chemicals
- Photo-induced toxicity
- Genotoxicity/carcinogenicity
In vitro testing is based on OECD guidelines for toxicological risk assessement of substances:
- Skin Absorption (OECD 428)
- Skin Irritation (OECD 439)
- In vitro Skin Sensitization: DPRA, KeratinoSens, h-CLAT (OECD 442C/D/E)
- Skin Corrosion (OECD 435)
- In vitro 3T3 NRU Phototoxicity (OECD432)
- Ocular irritation (OECD 496)
- Genototoxicity: Ames test, micronucleus assay (OECD 471/487)
