Cool Roofing: A Low-Tech and High-Impact Solution to Cool Buildings Sustainably
Cool roofs are nothing new under the sun. Historically, the application of white paint to cool buildings is a technology that has been used for centuries in Mediterranean and South American countries. In recent history, it was progressively abandoned until the 1990s, when it was picked up again experimentally in the United States. In Europe, Cool Roof France has led the way back to these ancestral practices with a new and improved version of the traditional recipe.
Since our inception, we have infused this ancient technology with modern R&D findings. Today, our reflective coating minimizes the absorption of solar radiation and, in turn, the accumulation of heat in buildings.
Our exclusive technology reflects over 90% of solar radiation and thus limits heating of the roof and building. This translates to an average reduction of 6°C in building temperatures. In addition to thermal comfort, our cool roofing solutions protect roof coverings from solar aggression (UV, expansion, etc.) and increase their durability over time.
In addition to these benefits, our technology significantly limits the use of air conditioning equipments, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As roof temperatures and indoor temperatures decrease, reliance on HVAC equipments subsides, and their direct emissions (such as halocarbons in refrigerant gases) and indirect emissions (due to their electricity consumption) diminish.
Cool Roof France also integrates an eco-design approach to its product development and manufacturing. While maximizing reflective performance, our R&D team has designed solutions integrating a renewable and local source of calcium carbonate : recycled oyster shells from Britanny.
